Creator of Culture #2 Mandy Kota
This Creator of Culture is an inspiration to all young woman, everywhere. Mandy, is one of those fighters that will pour her heart and soul into something she is passionate about. She is able to see hope and another narrative for young girls and we admire her vulnerability. She saw an issue, and she is doing something about it. We love, and celebrate those kinda of people. Be inspired, to be authentic and true to who you are!
One word to describe you and why.
Light. That's not really an adjective - is that okay? haha! I describe myself as light because I feel like whenever I meet someone new or just catch up with my friends they always feel so warm, nourished, welcomed and loved!
One thing you struggled with as a teenager?
Fitting in! I wanted to make sure that I looked really 'cool' so I did and said things that weren't really aligned with who I truly was!
Who defines what is normal? And why?
Me, myself and I! This is because in today's world, media tells us that we need to look and act a certain way to be "accepted" but this limits us from being our true selves and realising our greatest human potential. When I know that I define my own normal..i know that I can achieve anything and everything that God places in my path!
Who is your role model, and why?
That's really tough! I'd have to say my parents. They sacrificed and moved from their incredible lifestyles in Sri Lanka over 30 years ago so they could give my sister and I the education and opportunities we have today. Their selfless love for us and our family is incredible.
Why do you do what you do?
I empower teenage girls because i see myself in them and that's why I started Twnty Something. I think teenage girls have so much wisdom and beauty within them that they do not even see yet. All they need is a voice that tells them what true beauty is in today's world!
What are you passionate about and why?
I'm passionate about creating a safe and fun space for teenage girls! This is because I feel like teenage girls could be going through a lot of stuff internally and don't have a place to just talk it all out without any judgement. Also, sometimes we can get so focused on the problems we have in our life, we forget to see the beauty around us.
One bit of advice to young people today. *
Don't follow the crowd. Don't look to what everyone else is doing or what they are saying. The only person that knows you best is yourself, so listen to that voice within you and start taking action!! It might seem a bit scary at first cause no one else might be doing it - but through that you will be surprised what kind of culture you will create <3
OMG that is so hard..ONE QUOTE? I'd say "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future"
