LAURA PINTUR

FOUNDER

In 2016, Laura Founded ‘What’s Normal?’ a youth run advocacy movement that engages and educates young people. Through developing a schools based education program and online platform she challenges and empowers young people both here in Australia and overseas, to think critically about the culture around them. 

Since founding What’s Normal?, she has been awarded the Victorian Young Achiever of the year for 2017, The Saward Dawson Community Service and Social Impact Award 2017 and was selected to be part of The Foundation of Young Australians, Young Social Pioneers program in 2016. 

Laura is a passionate advocate and speaker, engaging young people in a conversation about identity and behaviours . She inspires people to not just be consumers of culture but creators of culture.

She challenges our cultural norms in regards to pornography, sex, relationships, and success . Laura poses the question What’s Normal? She has addressed a variety of audiences ranging from school kids, teachers, parents, as well as academics. As a leading voice in this arena, Laura has appeared both on TV and radio as well as being quoted in the print media. 

In early 2015 she began the Zoo campaign with Collective shout, actively engaging with the public to have the lads mag removed from supermarket shelves which successfully saw the closure of the magazine. 

Her background in Marketing, and advertising has given Laura isight into how our western culture is influencing the younger generation and the narrative there are growing up in. She is dedicated to not only challenge this narrative, but to offer an alternative of both hope and change.

MATHEW WRIGHT

PROGRAM DIRECTOR, VICTORIA

Wonderfully creative, a fearless adventurer and compassionate people person, Mat Wright recently graduated from a degree in Outdoor Education. Mat is passionate about seeing young people come alive doing what they love, seeing freedom from pornography and sexualisation, and restoring healthy perspective on relationships and masculinity. Mat loves seeing students flourish as they step into the the adventure of facing fear, exploring the unknown and enjoying the beauty of the world around them. He wants to encourage young people to see that culture starts with a choice, and that they have the power to challenge unhealthy norms and change culture for the better.

ANNA LANSDOWN

PROGRAM COORDINATOR, VICTORIA

Anna is one of the most encouraging, outgoing and enthusiastic people you’ll ever meet. Currently studying a degree in Education, Anna has a huge heart for young people, and young women in particular. She recognises issues young people are living with, such as comparison, self doubt and unrealistic expectations and desire to see young people realize their ability to fight for positive change in the world around them. She is a passionate advocate for healthy relationships, creating positive and supporting culture within young people and seeing young women celebrate themselves and each other.

ELIZABETH SOMERVAILLE

PROGRAM DIRECTOR, MEDIA

Elizabeth is a passionate and engaging speaker and writer, intent on seeing young people live free and flourishing in their potential. Elizabeth is dedicated to creating healthy change in youth culture, particularly in the areas of social media use and its effect on body image and comparison, healthy relationships, an understanding of value and purpose. As well as running What’s Normal?’s social media and speaking in schools and youth groups across Australia, Elizabeth loves creating music, writing and outdoor adventure.
